I read an article ‘Gen AI Revolution Is Reshaping The Future Of Traditional Consulting’ recently and got intrigued to think about workforce dynamics in consulting industry.
The author reminds us that the same capability of research and analysis will be taken by Gen AI and client needs are shifting to result-oriented advice rather than third-party decision-making validation.
What does this mean for consulting career model? We need to think different talent management model.
From my point of view, there will be an increasing shift in talent growth. In the traditional context, consultants are hired from the smartest people who achieved academic competition rather than specialization. Those people were leveraged to complete a massive number of intellectual works for broad industries. And then, they gradually curve them out and shape their expertise. As they become senior level, their jobs require much intensity of people skills.
Even regardless of industry, it might be keen to rethink what kind of skill the younger generation needs to develop. Also, firm managers might need to rethink a good mix of senior and junior talents on the way to long-term financial scalability.
